Hanshi Tim Thompson is a 8th Degree Black Belt (Grand Master Instructor) in the Okinawan / Japanese Martial Arts of Karate-Do, Kobudo, Goshinjitsu and Kenjitsu. His students and the Martial Arts community know him as Sensei and Shihan He has been in the Martial Arts for over Forty-Five years and was awarded the Hanshi Title on 14 October 2017 by Hanshi James Herndon. He was awarded his current rank of Hachidan (8th Dan) on 19 September 2008 by Grand Master Dale Stengele (O.M.A.A.). Sensei Thompson has also achieved rankings in Shorinryu Karate-Do, Kensei-Kai Karate-Do and Tsuru-Ha Kobudo. Karate Master & Legend Tadashi Yamashita promoted him to 6th Dan and Renshi title in Shorinryu Karate-Do on 24 February 1996. He received his Shorin-ryu Shihan Title 4 August 1991 and His Kensei-Kai Shidoin Lic / Title in 15 June 1988. He was promoted to 4th Dan in Kensei-Kai Karate-Do (1990) and 2nd Dan in Tsura-Ha Kobudo (1987) by Hanshi James Herndon. He has also studied under Soke Kuniba, Kyoshi Shiroma and Top Masters at Seminars and Clinics.
  • Shihan Tim Thompson is the Official OMAA Virginia State Director, RMAA National Director, USA National Representative of the International All Style Budo Federation (IASBF) and a Member of the World Stuntmans Association (WSA). He and his Ryoshin-Kan Karate School are members / affiliated with International All Style Budo Federation (IASBF), World Cup Martial Arts Organization (WCMAO), World Karate Union Hall of Fame (WKU), World Martial Arts Hall of Fame (WMAHOF), World Black Belt Martial Arts Hall of Fame (WBBMAHOF), Open Martial Arts Association (OMAA), Ryoshin-Kan Martial Arts Association (RMAA), and the British National Martial Arts Association (BNMAA) organizations. Shihan Tim Thompson was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Martial Science From FIMA University and He is a distinguish member of the Board of Directors of the Scientific Council of FIMA University. He is an official Member of the A.A.S.R.A. (Archaeology, Astronautics and SETI Research Association) and the C.G.R.G (Chariots of the Gods Meetup / Research Group). He participates in international research, study, World Conferences, symposiums, seminars, and adventurous expeditions to many remote places.
  • He has trained & performed in numerous countries including Japan, England, Scotland, Holland, Okinawa, Portugal, Spain, Italy, France, Norway, Germany, Egypt, Bahrain, Africa, Bahamas, Cuba, Caribbean Islands and through out the United States of America.
  • He is the Founder and Director of the Ryoshin-Kan Karate School, Dragon Force National Karate Team,Ryoshin-Kan Goshinjitsu System, Ryoshin-Kan Martial Arts Association and the Dragon Force Demo Team located in Virginia Beach, Virginia, all of which he established in 1980. Shihan Thompson has taught / shown thousands of Adults and Children in Shorinryu Karate-Do, Kobudo (Weapons) and Goshinjitsu (Advance Self-Defense). His School has produced numerous National and World Champions. His Dragon Force National Karate Demo team won 1991, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 World & National Martial Arts Team Championships. He has performed in over 1000 Karate Demos and in 1995 He directed & starred in the movie "The Adventures of Dragon Force." His Dragon Force Drum Corps, Color Guard, Ryoshin-Kan Float and Student Body won First Place out of 100 units in the 1998, 2000 and 2004 Virginia Strawberry Festival Parade. His Dragon Duet Team Pairs routine that he created and performs with, has won 2002, 2003 and 2004 Championships. His Dragon Force Kama X-Team has won 2005 & 2006 Championships. He is a National & World Champion in Karate, Kobudo and Goshinjitsu. He was a member of the Legendary USA Karate Team that finished second in the world out of fifty countries in 1991 at Kyoto, Japan. He has won First Place in Black Belt Self-Defense at Martial Arts Championships in 1982, 1985 to 93, 1996 - 2014. He has won the Title & First Place in the Adult Black Belt Self-Defense Division at the World Cup 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2010. Shihan Thompson and his top Black Belt Partners have won Black Belt Goshinjitsu National Championship divisions twenty -five times including 10 years in a row. His Dragon Force National Team won the Team Grand Championships (Team Demo and/or Team Forms or Team Pairs) at the 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2009 “WORLD CUP” Martial Arts Championships conducted in Washington, D.C. His Dragon Force National Team is the First to win the World Cup National Demo Team Title three years in a row.
  • Shihan Tim Thompson set the Ryoshin-Kan Dojo Brick and Concrete patio block Breaking Record by breaking 12 stacked large Red Bricks with a downward Elbow Strike on 2 August 2009 and 10 stacked Concrete patio blocks with a downward Elbow Strike on 31 August 2008. He conducts breaking demos and clinics every weekend.
  • Master Karate Teacher Tim Thompson was born in 1954 in Warrenton, Virginia and he graduated from Fauquier high School in 1973. He attended college at the Virginia Military Institute (VMI) and graduated from this famous institution in 1977 with a BA in History. He Received an Honorary Doctorate in Martial Arts / Science from the First International M.A. University in 2006. He is currently working on the Ryoshin-Kan System of Goshinjitsu and Combat Speed Book that will be published in the near future. He is a Retired Decorated Navy Commander and he served in the U.S. Navy for 26 Years.
  • Shihan Tim Thompson was inducted into the World Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 1992 as “Instructor of the Year” and in 2000 as “Head Founder of the Dragon Force Karate Demo Team.” He was inducted into the 2000 World Karate Union Hall of Fame as “Master Instructor of the Year & Black Belt National Team of the Year.” He was inducted into the WKU Hall of Fame in 2001 as the “Black Belt Goshinjitsu National Champion Team of the Year.” He was Featured in the January 2001 Action Martial Arts magazine as well as on their Millennium Collector Card. He and his Dragon Force National Demo Team were awarded the 2001 / 2002 “National Karate Demo Team of the Year” by the World Cup and World Black Belt Martial Arts Hall of Fame Organizations. Shihan Tim Thompson was inducted into the 2002 World Black Belt Hall of Fame as the "Grand Master of the Year." His Dragon Force National Karate Demo Team was awarded the "Best Karate Team of the Year" in 2003 by the OMAA.
